We are a humane society serving a fairly remote area of Northern Manitoba, Canada.  We came together as a group in 1998, incorporated, and became a registered Canadian charitable organization in 1999. As a group of dedicated volunteers, we work to raise awareness of the plight of stray and abandoned animals in the rural north, are concerned about pet over-population, and the cruelty and neglect that so often accompanies these conditions. We are trying to implement programs that make people stop and think about their actions towards animals.

If you would like to learn more about us, please click through the pages below - and bookmark us so you can come back to check on us from time to time.  We're growing and evolving and we're sure you'll see the changes here!

Animal Abuse Case     This has spawned a petition to amend the Cruelty to Animals act in Canada  The Petition

Important Notice

There is no shame in not being able to care for an animal any longer.  It is
the noble and right thing to do to acknowledge this and place the animal in
our care.  However, if we are not aware of the animals arrival, we cannot
care for it.  At times, especially during the weekend, the shelter is not
visited by a volunteer for up to 24 hours.  This is a long time to be out in
the weather with no food or water for the animal.  Please call 623-1610, and we will make sure that your animal gets the care it deserves.

Angels

Caring angels are out there in our community, working quietly to help animals in distress.  If you know of an angel story, please contact us.  We would love to share their stories.

 Story in Opasquia Times

Royal Canin have added us to their donation list.  What that means is they regularly have close to out-dating, high quality food that, although the food will be good for a year, they can't sell it in the stores.  With so many animals in need in the province, instead of throwing out the food in the landfills, they donate the food to shelters across the province.
With us added to the list, they will be contacting us every time there is food available. Because they are supporting a number of shelters, the amount of food available will vary, from a few bags to a pallet-load.  There is a chance that once in a while, a local person who orders from their company will allow us to have our food shipped on their truck along with his order.  Other than that, they are willing to hold the food in their warehouse until we can arrange for pick-up (in Wpg).
With this in mind, anyone who is heading to the city and might have room to bring back some food for our shelter, or knows of someone who is, could they please contact me either here or phone me at home 682-7223.
